 Movie Night

As one of the final events of this semester, Japan Club will be hosting a Movie Night on April 17th (Thu), 7:30PM-9:30PM, at the Ed M.S., Room 417 (it's on the 4th floor of the Library Annex.) The movie we're playing is a famous 1984 anime, "Kaze No Tani No Nausicaa", or Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (summary is here).

It's an awesome movie for those who haven't seen it, and it's also a great way to either spend a night with friends, or go on a cheap date. Space is limited, so make sure to show up on time if you want to get a seat.

Thanks and Gig 'em!

 Second general meeting

Sorry for the long wait, but we will be having the General Meeting Next Week! We thought about having the meeting last week, but I was told that many people would be busy with the tests and other school works. I hope you survived.

Date: Oct 22nd (Mon)
Time: 5:30
Where: Rudder 501

After the meeting, some of us will be going to Coffee Station for the Conversation Table. This might be a good time for you to check it out!
Things to be discussed:

1) T-Shirts
We got several rough ideas, but we are still asking for people to submit their ideas/designs. We would like yours by this Friday, so we can share them with other members before the meeting. But, we can wait until the meeting starts, or just bring your ideas to the meeting. Rough sketch will be OK too. We will be voting on Monday.

2) Movie Night
We are planning to have the Movie Night on Nov 2nd (Fri). We have several movie titles, but more people are sending their ideas. Please send us what you want to watch by this weekend. We will be voting on Monday as well.

3) International Buffet/International-Week
Many of you may know, this is one of the biggest event on campus promoting diversity. Japan Club has been participating in this event, and we would like to continue the tradition. The I-Week will be held at the last week of February. Many countries participate in this event. We usually make 3 Japanese dishes (300 servings each!), and have a cultural display, and a talent show. We will be discussing our menu sometime soonE Please think about what you want to cook!

4) International Feast?
We would like to have a food sharing party at the end of November or at the beginning of December. Japanese members are encouraged to cook Japanese food, and None-Japanese students can cook Japanese Food, American, Mexican, or anything you want. I will be cooking Jax-Mex. There's no concrete plan yet, but just to let you know what's coming ahead.

I hope to see you all next Monday!

 Several announcements

1) Our next general meeting will be held on Oct 22nd or 23rd. I know you were wondering when the next meeting would be, and why it is 3 weeks from now! Well, I would like you to think about several thingsEWe will be voting on the T-Shirt Design and the Movie to watch on the Movie Night! I want all of your inputs.

2) The Deadline for the T-Shirt Design is on Oct 19th! You can also describe the ideas or pictures, and we can make that into something! Don'tthink too hard, give us some ideas!!!!

3) The Movie Night is set on Nov 2nd (Fri) at this point. We need your ideas! Submit the titles (Bushi no Ichibun, 7 Samurai etc), or tell we what you like to watch (Comedy, Drama, Kurosawa, etc) The dead line will be on Oct 19th, the same day as the T-Shirt.

4) We are creating a new service! So far, we have concentrated on activities to help none-Japanese students to learn Japanese cultures and language. We didn't have much to offer for the Japanese StudentsE We would like to offer help for English problems for Japanese students, such as proof-reading and other study related questions and problems. We are asking American students to volunteer for this service. If you are interested in helping others, please let us know. We would like to create a group who would like to help them when they ask for help. (Or, I can just let all members know when someone is needing a help).

5) The Japan Club is relatively new student organization (established in 05). We are still growing, shifting, and changing. We don't have much of tradition yet, but we want to improve so that everyone feels comfortable attending our activities. To accomplish this, we need your input and ideas! To accomplish this, we decided to make the officer's meeting open. If you have any ideas regarding activities and other things, please send E-mail, and you are invited to the officers meeting. Any ideas, reflections, what we should be doing (or not doing), just about anything should be freely expressed. There's no stupid ideas... but it's stupid not to tell your ideas.

 T-shirt design

We are asking people to submit the design. Just an idea will be accepted as well. We have several artistically gifted people around, we can put your ideas into real art!

 BBQ was successful!

Thank for coming to the BBQ! Thanks for Mark, Ryan, and other people who helped for setting up and cooking. Here are some photos that we took. We hope you all enjoyed. Next year, we might make it more Vegetarian Friendly.

 BBQ

There will be BBQ next Friday (14th) at Hensel Park. Just North of Campus. We will probably start cooking around 5 o clock, and we must finish up and leave around 9:30. There will be a small charge depending on how many people shows up. You can invite your friends as well.

This is American Style BBQ, but we encourage people to bring a Japanese dish, seasoning, snacks, etc. I know people want authentic Japanese food, but ingredients are somewhat expensive and takes time to prepare... We should plan a Japanese food party sometime sooner or later.

To know how much food to buy, we need a good estimate on how many people would show up. If you are planning to come, please send an email to the following e-mail address by no later than Wednesday 11:59PM.

Hensel Park is here!

 First general meeting

Our first general meeting will be held next week on Wednesday, Sep 5th from 5:30 @ Rudder 404.

We will discuss what we will be doing for this semester. We are expecting many new students, and we want to make the first meeting interesting for them. We need mainly Japanese volunteers for this. The officers had a meeting and decided that we should perform some Japanese Traditional "Things," such as Karate, Shuji, Origami, Tea-making, etc... We need ideas and people who can perfoem these.

This is somewhat urgent, and please let us know if you want to show off your skills, or have some ideas.
